The Truck

The truck

She remembers being both so excited and scared to drive with him that first Saturday morning.

They woke up at 2:00 am drove to the yard to start their work day. He drove a Peterbilt dump trailer which carried 126,000 lbs of sand or gravel. He know how much she loved the grill on a Peterbilt, he always laughed when she said how it was a beast of a grill. He was her beast, the perfect pair.

She used to love seeing them on the road now it hurts it's a constant reminder of him. When she sees the grill now, her heart breaks thinking of all the good times they had.

He started the truck having her wait in the car until it warmed up. She saw him dusting of the seat making sure everything was as clean as it could be in a dump trailer, she was smiling watching him thinking he was so very sweet.

She remembers how small the steps were to get into the cab and how high up they were. She loved everything about the truck even the dirt but she especially loved riding shotgun with him.

The world was asleep as they pulled out of the yard, the lights on the dash casting a low light in the cab as they started their journey. She sat there watched him drive smiling he made it look so easy it made him look incredibly sexy.

She was fascinated like a kid in a candy store wanting to learn everything about the truck. He was a story teller, he enjoyed telling her everything about the truck. He was so patient taking the time to show her how everything worked. She listened to everything he told her, as he spoke all she could think of was how much she loved him.

They took off the road empty except for them, it was their own little world.  She loved being so high up in the cab, towering over the cars and other trucks, seeing the world from a different view with her love.

When they were ready to dump, he showed her how the trailer lifted all the way up so the sand would fall out, oh how she loved watching him and listening to him.

They would than head out east to the pit. She remembers the conversations about everything and nothing. She remembers most though the amazing sunrises they would watch driving east. It was their special time, sunrises and sunsets were theirs, they still are she goes every morning and night to watch them with him.

She remembers the Saturdays, she remembers the fun they had but most of all she remembers how much she loved being his co-pilot...
