The Comp

She is trying to mentally prepare herself for her first prep for a competition without him. Usually she cannot wait to start prep, she thrives on the schedule, everything set up by her coach with her nutrition and training so she can just focus on the end game getting on stage.

The last time she competed she talked him into doing it too. He didn't really want to do it but like so many other things he knew how much it meant to her so he went along with it. She justified it to him by saying he was going to be there all day with her anyway he might as well do it as well.

He was always backstage with her even when he wasn't competing. He helped her with any last minute fixes to her suit, helped her pump up and most importantly he would apply the oil perfectly on her so she would shine under the heavy lights.

Prepping together was relatively easy again she loved prep, him not so much, he moaned and groaned but for the most part he enjoyed it as much as he could.

The day of the show she was so excited and thrilled for both of them to be getting on stage. She was more nervous for him and he was more nervous for her but then again he always was nervous when she competed, more nervous than she ever got. She thought it was touching and sweet how he was whenever she was on stage, her biggest cheerleader, she could always hear him whistling and screaming her name.

They both took first place, she was overall winner as well. This win had qualified them both for their first national show. He was not going to compete but he know her goal was to obtain her pro card so he was thrilled for her.

She started training to compete the very next day, it was what she wanted, no crazy days of eating, she was focused on her goal. Than the pandemic hit, gyms closed and she scrambled to find any weights to continue training at home. She worked harder training at home hoping to be back in the gym soon. All competitions had been cancelled or rescheduled which gave her more time to build.

By the time the gyms opened back, they had acquired enough equipment to have a nice home gym. It was also the time they started posting new dates for competitions, hers had been rescheduled for October. They were excited, she couldn't wait nor could he. They were counting down the days until the competition than the unthinkable happened, the day her world stopped.

She doesn't know how she is going to do this by herself but she knows she will. He pushed her, supported her knowing it was her dream to be on a national stage so she will dig deep to have the strength to honor him.

When she thinks of walking into the competition by herself tears start to form, her heart breaking just a bit more. How is she going to do this alone? Who is going to talk her down when her mind starts going crazy? How is she going to handle the long day by herself? She thinks of the times she previously walked off stage seeing his smiling face because he was proud of her, waiting to hug and kiss her knowing it was all worth it regardless of how she placed because in his heart she was No. 1, she was first place.

She has 18 weeks to mentally prepare herself, 18 weeks to brace her heart not to shatter when she turns with no one standing there backstage waiting to hug and kiss her. 18 weeks....
